Easyjet make Poland far to fly for McConnell
Round 4, 2008 World Enduro Championship, 12 June 2008
All good plans were ruined by Easyjet yesterday, as Euan McConnell tried to make his way to Poland to race at the fourth round of the World Enduro Championship this weekend (14-15 June 2008) in Poland.
His long trek started with a drive from Aberdeen on the north-east coast of Scotland, to Edinburgh to meet his afternoon flight with Easyjet to Stansted. Then McConnell was due to fly from Stansted to Bydgoszcz in Poland and then drive to the event in Kwidyzn to arrive on Wednesday evening.
Unfortunately Easyjet let him down, along with another 150 or so passengers. After sitting on the scheduled plane for a period of time, the passengers were asked to leave the aircraft due to mechanical issues. The passengers were then left to wait in the departure lounge for another plane to arrive at Edinburgh, to take them to Stansted. After two hours passengers were given the obligatory £3 voucher to ease their pain, which wasn't even enough to buy a panini at the only cafe at their mercy.
Finally the passengers 2pm flight left the Edinburgh airport around 8pm, which in turn saw McConnell miss his connecting flight to Poland. With the aid of a mobile phone and a girlfriend at the other end, he was able to book an alternative flight and finally make his way to the event.
